1 channel video-installation / 2012-15 / 15 min loop
+ Metal Structure, 4m x 3m (6 steel pieces of 1,5m x 1,8)
This installation revolves around how we position ourselves in a territory, as the sky becomes territory through missions in space and open skies treaties, negotiating its poetic meaning as a space and its geopolitical implications.
The video is made up from skies of over 30 aviation space conquest and war films. I have carefully chosen those scenes in which the sky has a predominant role, usually scenes of jet combats, and introduction to flight, beginnings and endings. I have cut out the elements that were not sky through geometric shapes, keeping the original sound, negotiating different logics for creating a new narrative.
The video projection is silhouetted against the wall creating continuous negative / positive spaces.
It creates an open reading, both narrative and special.
