Lives and works in Madrid.

In making my work I use video, found footage, and photography to deal with events in contemporary history, emphasizing and prioritizing the experience of individuals above the accepted historical narrative. I believe that the lives of anonymous individuals are the catalyst and the driving force from which history is made.

After receiving a BA in audiovisual studies in Madrid and Tokyo, Nadia completed a MFA in Film, Video, and New Media at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a full scholarship from La Caixa foundation, and graduated with the Louise Raymond fellowship. In her work she explores identity and community awareness, using non-traditional documentary techniques, such as asking the people that she documents to perform to compose multimage video-installations and films. She had her first large exhibition at the University of Illinois University Galleries in 2011. Hotait has participated in different exhibitions in venues such as: Biennial of Young Art of Moscow (Russia), Digital Marrakech (Morocco), La Tabacalera (Spain), Zolla Lieberman Gallery (Chicago). Her last installation ”The Connivance of Watching Birds” received an INJUVE award for emerging artists. In addition to she has been selected artist in residence in La Granja (Mexico) and at the WARP, Artist Village Program in Genk, Belgium.

Nadia combines her artistic practice with working in film production.
