Anticipation of a disappearance

Chicago (2007)

12 min

12 Channel video installation,

Video projection on plexiglass.

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (Merc) became an online virtual market in May 2008. This project, completed in December 2007, was an attempt to memorialize the end that was about to happen, dealing with the loss of their specific “language” to explore what is unrecoverable when speech is loss.

The installation portrays twelve workers using the Merc’s sign-language signing each month of the year. As the videos progresses the workers faded out while the noise and voices of the market floor take over.
